Pedestrian Crossing Island on Mt. Vernon at Forest Springs Drive

Crossing

TONIGHT (8/24/2015:

The Dunwoody City Council discusses possible Pedestrian Crossing Island on Mt. Vernon at Forest Springs drive. We’d love to see this built.

But will it impact future bike lanes when the road is repaved (scheduled for 2016)? And what is the plan for those long right turn / decel lanes on Mt. Vernon? Headed westbound, there is a very long decel lane approaching Forest Springs. When the road is re-paved, will this be reduced — or even eliminated?

Decel lanes increase travel speeds and make it less safe for pedestrians or persons on bicycles. And the ever slight traffic delay in removing the decel lane is inconsequential to the flow of motor vehicle traffic.

We just want to make sure the pedestrian crossing island is built in a proper location that considers future re-striping, road diet and bike lanes.
